Best Sound of Show (IMHO) goes to Acoustic Image room.  ESP Concert Grand SI speakers being driven by Wavestream Kinetics tube amps.  Source is either the top of line four box Lector CD system or a top-flight turntable (sorry, forgot the brand) spinning some vinyl.

If you're looking for your "last" pair of speakers... I'd put these on a very short list!

For $40k I'd hope they were speakers that would last a lifetime.  Most of us would take that long to either pay them off or find a new wife and family that would forgive us for taking Jonny's college fund.

Seriously, I've heard nothing but great things about these speakers, but again, value is not an adjective that springs to mind.

I don't think they are made for the average user of this forum.

Not even above average.  I've done more than ok in my life as an executive in the software biz, and they are nearly 3X-4X above my wildest speaker pair threshold.

I guess everyone has his/her vices, some more expensive (exotic cars, round-the-world vacations) than others (bridge, hiking, online porn).  Mine are resort quality golf and video/audio, along with investing wisely for that retirement castle.  I'm considered, by my friends and family, to be wayyy at the end of the audio/video continuum.....but I guess not.
