A/X --> active speakers ?

A/X --> active speakers ?

is this a possible quick way to get some tunes going ?

Stream music from iTunes through a A/X directly into a pair of active speakers ?  I'd love to not get amps, preamp and stuff like that now.

The idea is to save money as I will get (hopefully this life) a good 2ch system in my basement, yet get something going upstairs in the leaving room.

Any hints ?

Very nice little active nearfield studio monitors, biamplified, very well received by the audio recording folks.

I've been using a pair of Genelec 8020a. Compact, high resolution, surprising amount of bass for their size,pricey. I'm happy  with them.
