Speculation time - LS-9 vs. the Apex II
« on: 25 May 2006, 10:49 am »
This is a repost . Also in the GR Research area . Wanted to get info from each manufacturer .

I would like to compare the not yet released GR Research LS-9 to the RAW Apex II's . No doubt both are great . Just looking for strengths and weakness areas of each . Not here to bash anyone .

1. What is the -3db down point for each ?

2. Total weight , net and shipping ?

3. THD% specs for each at the same levels .

4. Which will play with less compression . Say 300 watt input or something . I bet #3 could be part of this one .

5. Which will play closest to 20hz ? Basically one would be LOOKING for a subwoofer in the room .

Again the LS-9 is not out yet . No real data for them is either , or is it ??

best regards

APEX II -3db 25hz
             20hz in room!

2. Total weight , net and shipping ?
APEX II weight 135lbs with Bases and spikes

3. THD% specs for each at the same levels .
APEX II THD Less than 3% THD at 99 dB SPL over rated frequency response
IMD Less than 0.05% at 99 dB SPL over rated frequency response

4. Which will play with less compression . Say 300 watt input or something
Well a customer has over 200 watts on them as shown in his photos above and not a issue at all.The Apex II love the power.
. ...

Now to the single issue we are prowd to say is the big selling feature with our line of products.
The dispersion with a single tweeter in far better both vertical and horizontal than a line of tweeters. :o Did I say that 8)

Customer comments on the Apex II dispersion.

I was listening last night and my back was hurting so I thought I'd lay on the floor and listen for awhile. In the past when I did this I realized it was going to be like background music. Man, was I suprised!! I put my head where the pillow is in the picture with my feet going toward the back wall - it was like have a good pair of headphones on, hehe. I listened to a whole album like that (Free - Highway Remaster). It was really incredible! With my previous few pairs of speakers - no way - that was like listening in a different room! I could actually get within 1 foot and between the speakers (at tweeter height) and have very good imaging and soundstage. Pretty amazing dispersion! I got headphones and bass the body feels as a freebe, hehehe

Also remember you are compairing 2 different speakers.

A line array and a 4 way.

Not even close to the same over all design.
