Who listens to headphones on the computer?

Okay,
What system do you reccommend?
Basically, I'm looking for a cheap upgrade from just plugging the Grados into the headphone jack of the computer.
Any advice on headphone amps, dacs etc. would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi how youre doin dude

cool

what price range can you afford??

you havent been specific so ill try to give you some general clues

1 not all headphones/earphones will sound the same
2 not all amps are good for that sort of listening
3 if you buy headphones big are better
4 listen before you buy

hope that helps

cheers

If you're o.k. with $200, I'd highly recommend the Total Bithead from HeadRoom. It's got a built-in DAC if you run it off of the USB port on your computer and it's got a line-in to run off of any other player. I bought mine a while back when it was $270 -- yup, the price dropped! I use it at work with a pair of Grado SR60s and I'm very happy with it.

I would probably use M-audio's USB Audiophile device. It has an amplifier in it for headphones, and probably a better DAC than the Bithead (I am going to guess it only has a 27015 whatever thing, not a 1543).

That is a guess though.

Since you have Grados, try to find a used Grado headphone amp; the Chaintech AV-710 sound card is excellent and cheap at less than $30.
