I installed the Panelight today.  All I need now is a Pro ISF.

I installed them behind the Plasma.  One on each side.  The picture now seems to float in th air. 8)
I highly recommend it.

Looks great.

That's a 50" plasma? - correct?   I also have a 50" plasma & have been thinking about these lights.

Did you get the Panel light model? Do you think you need two of these lights or would one work.

Also are you dimming them with the baffle diffuser?

Thanks

Looks great Levi!

Does it matter what color the wall is behind the TV?

My 50" Panny looks small.

That is an Ideal-Lume Panelight kit from CinemaQuest.  I think 50" or larger screen requires 2 Panelight depending on the size of the room.  The kit comes with piggy back power cable, extension cable, additional power cable,  velcro fasteners, wall fasteners and instructions.  It is $79 + shipping for the kit.

I pointed the dimming baffle towards the sides and used the diffuser to spread the lights even more.  I just winged the Dimming baffle adjustments  Further tweaking should be done when Chad gets here.

The walls should be neutral color according to the instruction manual.  Somewhere close to Gray if at all possible to match the white level.

Today I had my Panasonic TH-50PHD7UY 50" plasma ISF calibrated and the result is just stunning.

I have had the plasma for a bit over a year now. The picture has been excellent. However, was not totally happy with the blacks & gray scale. Also, sometimes there was a bit of a green tint to certain scenes. Don't get me wrong, the picture was great. Nephew once said, "You can see the hair on the beaver's balls".  :o  We were watching IMAX beavers movie on INHD TV.

I had previously run DVE to calibrate. Also tried some settings (never in the service menu  :nono: ) which I read on the Internet. Picture quality was very good.

I run either my Motorola digital cable box or DVD player (one at a time) directly to the Panny via DVI input.

I have read over at AVS Forums about ISF calibration and finally decided to give it a shot.

I contacted:

Chad Billheimer
www.HDTVbyChadB.com

Chad is supposed to be one of the best ISF Techs around.

I emailed Chad and we discussed things a bit. His price was reasonable (flat fee - no travel charges). He said he would be making his way to South Jersey, so I said what the heck, let's do it.

Chad arrived at my house about 9:15am and left about 1:30pm. He is very professional and thoroughly went through the calibration of my Plasma, DVD player, & digital cable box. He was at it for hours - non stop.

End result is just spectacular. Blacks are black. Gray scale knocks your socks off.  The picture is much sharper, vivid, 3 dimensional. Colors are all now spot on.

Its really like seeing the set for the first time. Very nice, way better than any plasma I have ever seen.

Money well spent & highly recommended!

I just had Chad calibrate my Panasonic TH-50PHD8UK (commercial version) plasma.  Excellent results!  He calibrated it for both 720p and 480i sources.  It was interesting that after doing the calibration purely based on the pattern generator, when we turned on the DirecTV satellite box, the picture was actually a little washed out (clearly a case of the satellite box output inconsistencies)...but Chad then spent additional time fine-tuning the results, with final picture quality being clearly superior to the self-calibration I had done with the Avia DVD.  $295 for what ended up being about 4 hours of work.

Highly recommended!   :thumb:

I had my Pany Pro ISF calibrated by Chad B as well.  The results are fantastic!  There is not much to say as everyone said it already.
I will show you the calibration results with the Avia DVD vs ISF Pro by Chad B.

The results on the left was with Avia and the right was after Chad calibrated the color levels.
This translates to "Palpable" image as one might describe it in terms of audio.

We watched "Ultraviolet" after Chad left and it truly is a colorful movie. Highly recommended :thumb:

I am hoping to get my new Sony ISF Calibrated in the next few weeks.

I have had others tv's and pj's ISF Calibrated, and it can make a very noticeable difference as other here have pointed out.

Levi, are you still using and liking the AQ lights?  What did Chad say about them?

I still like and use it religously.  I don't notice the AQ lighting while watching movie, so that is a good thing.   If it does not distract you from your movie watching, then that is a good thing.  Chad likes it as well.  He also recommended an AQ light or something like an ambience light to reduce eye-strain when viewing in a dark room.  I also asked if AQ lights are the same light as the one used in an aquarium.  The answer is no, it is not the same.  I figured two (2) will be sufficient for a 50" screen.

What's the difference?

It isn't anything like the cheapies I've got on the fresh water, but it does look like a normal T5 fixture you see on some salt water tanks.

Just from a brief scan of the site it looks like color temp might be the biggy.

I don't run T5s (HQI MH instead), but isn't 6500k is a bit low for good coral growth.  Isn't 14000k-20000k more common (more bluish than neutral).

Chad didn't specify in details as far as the exact difference.

Just setup my appointment with Jim Doolittle (highly recommended by Robin) and he will be doing his magic in a couple weeks.

In the meantime, I will order the AQ lights.
