Dynamat extreme remove!
« on: 11 May 2006, 10:36 am »
hi! I had a really poor dynamat extreme doors job done by my s.o.b. friend. I would like to know if anyone here has done this before? How was the result? How did you do it? Can the adhesive be removed 100%? how long is it gonna take for 4 doors?  Thanks

Very touch to remove. If you have a heat gun (hair drier not hot enough) you can remove most of it. For the remaining adhesive, you can use some lacquer thinner. Messy job but it can be done. You have your work cut out for you.

Sorry to hear about your car door.  I contacted Dynamat about this in the past.

The best way to remove it is not to remove at all.  It is tar based which conforms to the shape of the surface.  There are no shortcut in removing Dynamat.  You simply pull the Dynamat off by hand.  You can then remove the residues by sticking the Dynamat back and forth.  Once you have most of the residues off, use a solvent to dissolve rest.

There is a 50/50 chance that  the finish will be damaged.  You get lucky once in a while.  Try to spend at least a couple of hours maybe a day or two depending in how clean you want this stuff off.

Goodluck!

ouch....my plan is to heat it up (to extremely hot) while have a paint mask for the toxic problem, and wear a glove to pull it off. Is the heat going to damange the wires? does it sound feasible? inputs please....Thanks

I won't use heat to remove it.

Just curious, why do you want it off? Not happy with the results?

The result is just ok; since most of the noise is from the floor panel. The problem is that the idiot over lap the dynamat badly, so it's adding so much weight already (feels like S600's door), and I just found out for my mazda 3 80% of the noice is the road noise from the floor panel. So i might need to dynamat the entire floor too. Now, i am just trying to get rid of the weight on the door and use it for the floor and put some baisc sound deadening material, since majority of the noise is not from the door.

Yes.  Two options.

1. leave it alone.
2. peal it off regularly.

There are no shortcuts.

So is there any thing I need, i have to know, and I have to beware of by pilling it off regularly?
Thanks

All you need is a pair of hands work it out slowly.  Razor blade helps.

If you can actually get it off the doors, it will be so badly damaged from trying to remove it you won't be able to apply it to the floor.

And don't worry about the couple of extra pounds worth of Dynamat in the doors. It's not enough weight to effect the car in performance or economy.

I'd just leave it on if I were you. I tried to pull some off on my truck once so I could move it over a bit. Not only was it a pain to get any of it off, but it also took the paint right off of the metal with it and left it bare metal. :o And I really doubt you'll want any of your paint pulled off your Mazda 3.

Do yourself a big favor and leave the stuff on the doors and don't worry about it...
