I think like anything else, the best approach is to audition for yourself if possible. Some reviewers are very open minded and unbiased and I beleive TAS is moreso than Stereophile.
I do agree that there could have been a bit "more" in the review but I guess it was to the point. She liked them!

I'm finding many TAS reviews to be too short, but nothing is as bad as freaking Sam Tellig's traveties of terrible reviews. Yeah, PLEASEEEEEE tell me about some stupid freaking French/Italian town, the wine, the great food, the wonderful music that came from the region, and then give me a paragraph about the sound of the component under review.

That speaker was one of the better ones in the VTV exhibit. Little overhang in the bass, astonishingly fast delivery, may not sound like Godzilla when it comes, but darn, it is good.

From the front, due to the redness and the black facade, it looks imposing, but in reality, it is fairly slender and the depth, it is not deep. One heavy speaker for what it is.

I liked it, but I wish the sensitivity was higher, so it could work with SET and lower powered SS amps that are soooo prevalent now.

I listened to the Adagio's this weekend paired with Grommes tube amps. They were a joy. The highs were super extended (as a result of using the ribbon driver. The transmission line bass was a clean and totally adjustable by playing with the relative tilt of the speaker.

If I would characterize them I would say they are clean and neutral. They are not however harsh in any way, nor were they overly clinical.

OK...I gotta ask a few potentially stupid questions -

What do you mean by that? Are you saying that a ribbon tweeter rated to reach 'x' kHz is somehow more extended than a non-ribbon tweeter rated to the same 'x' kHz?

If so, do you believe that to always be the case? IOW, does it also apply to Beryllium tweeters, plasma tweeters, etc.?

Hi All,

I know the Adagios are brand new. I just wanted to clarify why I’m getting a pair. I’m considering becoming a home-reseller of Adagio products. As such, I'm getting a pair for my review and consideration.

Certainly, folks are welcome to hear the Adagios whereever they are available. In fact, professional retailers will likely have more equipment to try them with and better listening rooms. Personally, I’m fascinated by the reviews and want to hear the Adagios for myself with my gear, my music, and in my environment. If they are the best speakers I can find in that price range, I plan on becoming a home retailer.

Also, many folks have been kind and generous in my audio dealings I try to return the favor by opening my house to anyone in the area who is interested in hearing what I’ve found to be the best (again, in my price range, in my environments, with my audio sources). So if I do like them and can help other folks listen to them, I’d be glad to.

I’ll keep anyone interested posted on the Adagio audition-ability. They are supposed to arrive this weekend, so next week may work out (if I run them 7 X 24 to break them in)…

IMHO, I'd give them more than a week to break in (unless 7 x 24 really means that at a good volume for 5-6 days). I wasn't able to go 7 x 24 when I got mine...more like 7 x 12...and it was a month before I really felt comfortable that the sound was dialed in. I know Robert likes to tell people that they only take 3 days to break in, but they really do take a lot longer.

If you're going to be a dealer for them, don't let the excitement of having people over to listen to them rush you...(just my two cents)...

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the good advice. I'll be listening to them on and off so should be able to judge the sound state. The sound system is in a finished room in the basement so I can run them loudly (except when I'm in there). The rest of the family will just have to get used to the "thumpa thumpa" coming through the floor

I want to break them in so I can try them against the Onix Ref 3s I have. One set or the other is going to have to go back...

Just read the review in TAS (pdf edition) and it is quite a rave. Dissapointingly there is not much information relating to the design or construction of this speaker.
