Acoustic Zen Adagio Speakers
« on: 21 Apr 2006, 08:47 pm »
I'm hearing outstanding things about these transmission line speakers. Word is that they are "A Sleeping Giant Killer". And once reviews start rolling in, they will be scarce and prices are likely to climb above the $4000 price point. Does anyone have any input about these speakers?

Actually, the price has already been raised (to $4300, up from $3700)...

I have a demo pair, and at the March NY Audio Rave, lonewolf heard them (briefly, as we put them in the system after everyone else had left), so he can comment on them.  I'm a dealer for them, so I'll refrain from "selling", but I'll say that I wouldn't have purchased a demo pair if I didn't think there would be any demand for them... 8)

Lonewolf, its time to hear from you. What about these speakers? Is the hype justified?

Apparently JAMn Joe in Chicago felt the same way after hearing them, because he brought in a demo pair, too.

I understand you're not too far away from Chi-town, so you might consider giving Joe a call:  847-356-5161.

Robert Lee told me that CES resulted in over 140 orders in the first week following the show alone from dealers and distributors.  So apparently a lot of us felt the same way...!  8)

You're building quite a collection of excellent gear offered at reasonable prices, Phil.

I wish I was closer...chances are I'd help finance your continued growth.

Thanks!  And hey...if there aren't any local dealers that carry this stuff, I'm more than happy to serve...    :D

Local dealers?!?  In Mississippi?!?

Not a chance, my friend.

But as much as I'd love to audition some of your offerings, I refuse to be one of those guys with a revolving front door to accomodate all the gear they "audition" and return.  Yeah, I know it's sort of self-defeating in a way, but I'd rather remain ignorant about the sonic nuances of (fill in the blank) than negatively affect a small dealer's bottom line.

Nah, until something changes (i.e. improves), I'll just contact Chris if the itch becomes too much to bear.  He may not have all the same equipment, but you have to admit, his inventory rivals that of most dealers...

Hello Marcus,
As Phil mentioned....at the end of the March Rave, we moved the AZ's into place, and I played a few cd's. Sounded pretty good, well rounded sound. I wasn't to hot about the red color    ....but I see their available in another finish. I'd say their worth going to hear if their close by. JAMn Joe in Chicago carries many brands I see....listen to a few different speakers....would be a nice outing for the day. 8) [/list:u]

For a non-biased opinion of the speakers I suggest you read the new issue of The Absolute Sound and see what they have to say.

I know there are upcoming reviews from 6moons and The Stereo Times coming so keep on the lookout.

Anyone looking for speakers owes it to themselves to find the closest dealer carrying the Adagios and check them out. There a very special speaker at the price they are being sold. Not only do they sound great but they look good too!

Don't take my word for it, I'm a dealer. Check it out for yourselves.

    Hi everyone,
As of late next week, I should also have my pair here in New York and available for audition. I do need to get some break-in time on them but I will run them 24/7 to spped this process up.

Very much looking forward to this new product for us. After hearing Jam'n Joe's words (I won't mentioned anything here), I just had to bring them in myself.

    Toobluvr,

I was referring to my biased opinion of how great the speakers are :D

I suppose your comment may be some what correct sometimes but I don't recall Acoustic Zen doing a lot of advertising in TAS or I've just missed it when I browse the pages.

I can tell you this much, I know the TAS reviewer is not the only reviewer giving this speaker high praise. Keep an eye out for upcoming reviews. I brought the speaker line on based on a reviewers opinion and Dan Wright telling me I would be stupid if I didn't give them a try. I took both of their advice and within a couple of days listening (before total break-in) signed on as a dealer and I'm not looking back. I walked away from becoming the Fried dealer in my area to bring on this speaker line because I believe it's that good, or at least that's what my ears are telling me anyway.

But now you've got my opinion which is what I was trying to avoid in the first place

where exactly is the review in TAS. I looked carefully through at the news stand, including the lengthy report on CES and couldn't find any mention. Are you talking about the issue that has the D200 review, because I found that.

    HI Russell,
The issue you looked at was the issue before the Adagio review. It has the Adagio speakers, AVA gear with Anti-Cable mention and a lot of the Hovland gear in it.
Most news-stands do not yet have the latest issue. I beleive it will be another week or so before it hits news-stands.
I thought it was interesting as I received my issue in the mail the same day I ordered my speakers. Can't wait. I only wish I had them in time for my Sunday gathering here in NY.

    Adagio Review in TAS
    Russell,

It's the latest issue of TAS that is being mailed out to subscribers now. June/July issue #162.

It should be hitting the new stands soon.

    Toobluvr,

I now stand corrected on biased reviews regarding TAS and the Adagio speaker. While I hope the review was without bias, it appears that Acoustic Zen took out a half page add in the very same issue that the review came out in. Read into that what you will.

I still agree with the review whole heartedly and still consider the speaker to be an outstanding value for its price vs. performance and looks and because it plays music so well!

No problem Joe...I wasn't accusing you of anything.
And I wasn't commenting on the actual performance of the speaker.

Probably just my cynical and jaded nature, but I think these guys in this industry are all biased....or compromised...or less than honest.....in one way or another.  So everything must be taken with a large grain of salt.

I read about some of the praise from the latest Equipment shows regarding these speakers. I 'm glad to see others are able to take a listen.
I read through my issue of TAS and was looking forward to a lengthy review? High praise but a very short amount of verbage...
I would like to hear what Srajan over at sixmoons would report. They have really been spot on with there discreptions and reviews regarding hot new products :)

Anyone else carrying them in the Midwest?
