Double ugly.....Your avatar of the Phantom II was designed at Mcdonnell Douglas by a friend of mine Toney Wong..He called it the Phantom Spook. It is still in copyright owned by Boeng. Tony passed away a couple of years ago. He did many variations of the Spook over 30 years. I,m glad to see it again.
I'm genuinely sorry to hear about your friend's passing.
My moniker comes from an affectionate nickname we (pilots and WSOs) had for the F-4, and from one of a series of cartoon drawings depicting the F-4 -
THE DOUBLE UGLYHere's another from the same series -
The PhantomWith regards to the Phantom Spook, he was known as Phinney the Phantom in every squadron with which I flew. He was often referred to as "The Spook" and similar nicknames, but Phinney the Phantom was considererd to be his "proper" name. I don't know why it was changed, but it probably happened well before my arrival in the community.
FWIW, after the untimely retirement (IMO) of the F-4, the USAF Intelligence community claimed The Spook as their mascot. I didn't like it, but there was nothing I could do about it. In my not-so-humble opinion, he should always be associated with the mighty Phantom...period.
My apologies for the thread hi-jack. Now back to your regularly scheduled killer system discussion.
Regards,
Jim
