Exclusive rights to the Rafael Mendez library?!
I didn't think anyone would want to touch that stuff!! From the material I've heard him play on records, it would make a lot of trumpet players try another profession. Seriously folks, Rafael Mendez was one of the all-time phenoms on the trumpet. He developed a techique where he could inhale while he was playing. And there's three of them playing Mendez' arrangement of Flight of the Bumblebee for three trumpets; and they're triplets!!
We'll have to catch that one. We're shooting for Tower Grove Park, tomorrow. Thanks for the tip, Mark.

Cool
We ?might? be in for this one. Still need to get a ruling from (as Bryan says)
she who must be obeyed
. If so, do you want to meet someplace on The Hill and catch some dinner before (or after) the concert?

Hey Scott,
I'm hosting some relatives from Belgium, so I'm not sure where we'll be. We might be interested in some Ted Drewe's after the concert if that sounds good.

Hiya Guys,
I was just surfing through the local venues seeing who is coming this fall and winter. I found a couple that sound pretty interesting at The Bistro.
The first is Delfeayo Marsalis the weekend of 10/6. He is the trombone player of the family. Super smooth sounds. I'd suggest going to his MySpace page and listening to a few of his songs. Really good stuff, in fact I'm going to order his CD. The show is only $30.
Don't care for the trombone? How about some vibes? Stephan Harris will be at The Bistro the Weekend of 11/3.
The Bistro has lots of other great shows coming up. Anybody want to hit a few of them?

Scott, I won't be able to make Delfeayo but plan on seeing Stephan Harris. I would like to go on a Wed., or Thur. night.

Hey everybody,
I'm playing first chair for Frank Sinatra Jr. at Touhill coming up early in October. I'll get the dates for you. Also, I'm playing a violin and viola concerto by Mozart with the University City Symphony coming up in early November. I'll post the date for that as well.

Adrian, we're definitely in for the concerto. Be sure to post the dates and where we can get tickets.
Sturg, let me see if Laura wants to go to the Stephan show and then we can order tickets.

First concert of the St. Louis Wind Symphony is next weekend at Kirkwood High School-3:00 pm. The concert's theme is "The 1904 World's Fair" and features music that might have been performed in that general time frame. The concert will include:
Clarinet Concertino by Carl Maria von Weber with the entire clarinet section playing the solo part.
The Debutante by Clarke with Tim Meyers from the St. Louis Symphony as our euphonium soloist
Zampa Overture by Herold
Original Fantasy by Picchi with Tim Meyers again
Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna by von Suppe (for all you Bugs Bunny fans)
The Boys of the Old Brigade by Chambers
American Patrol by Meacham
Funiculi, Funicula by Denza
The Rakoczy March from "Damnation of Faust" by Berlioz
Pretty cool concert and it will by a treat to hear Tim play the two Euphonium solos. Wickedly fast at times. Let me know if anyone can make it out and I'll get some tickets held at the front table.

The St. Louis Wind Symphony is playing a joint concert with Truman State on Nov. 4th at 3:00 pm.
The concerts are held at Kirkwood High School's Keating Auditorium and I try to have some comp tickets at the front table for the GAS gang.
We're playing:Giannini Symphony no. 3 Commando March Lincolnshire Posy1812 Overture-
No cannons, but the Truman State brass section will be playing the optional parts out in the hall for surround effects at the end.
They're playing Shostakovitch "Festive Overture", a selection of Grainger tunes for band and a couple of marches.
Come on out if you're not busy on that Sunday. Steve K is usually in the house and Scott F. sometimes sneaks in too. This should be a fine afternoon of concert band music and if you want some tickets, it's free, too!!!!

thanks for the invite Zephyrapprentice. I can only imagine how good a string quartet would sound up close. Unfortunately I don't believe I'll be able to make it out this weekend either.
Congrats Electricbear.
May I ask what breed you're picking up this weekend?
I was starting to wonder about us audiophile's as I've seen a disproportionate amount of cats vs dogs. I guess they are a bit more quiet and not as desructive; however, they do seem do to their fair share of damage too.

I'm sorry that this update is going out so late. As I mentioned before, I'm playing the Mozart Sinfonia Concertante for solo violin and viola with violist Anna Lackschewitz and the University City Symphony coming up on this Sunday, Nov. 11 at 3pm. The location is All Saints Catholic Church, 6403 Clemens Ave., 63130 at the corner of Clemens and Westgate. The concert is free, and will also include Beethoven's Prometheus Overture and Haydn's Symphony No.26("Lamentation").
Coming up in December, I'll be concertmaster of the Ballet Orchestra of St. Louis for the Nutcracker at the Fox Theater, with perfomances on the 5th through the 9th. The Joffrey Ballet will do the dancing. Also, I'll play Xmas concerts with the Bach Society at Powell Symphony Hall, and with Masterworks Chorale. Details to come later.

Well, you guys missed a great performance
I'm here to tell you, Adrian is a ROCK STAR
Here are a couple of picks from todays performance by the University City Symphony Orchestra with guest soloists Adrian Walker and Anna Lackschewitz. Sorry for the quality of the pics, the light was a bit low (and yellow) and as usual I was shooting without a flash.
The Orchestra taken from the choir loft

Hey thanks Scott!! I was glad to see you there. I'll have to admit that I had so much fun playing, it's such happy music. Unfortunately, the concert wasn't recorded, but it's nice to have a couple of pictures to keep from it. Anna and I both had students from the same family in Rolla to show up, and that was great. I'll have more details soon on my December dates.
