zako,

Many thanks for opening my eyes to the merits of DIY. How could I have been so foolish for so many years? :(

And those rapacious manufacturers, distributors and retailers... The very nerve of them actually expecting to make a living wage, expecting to cover the costs of doing business, feeding, housing, providing medical care for their families. When will this madness end? When will we throw off the shackles of these Capitalist dogs?

Again, many thanks,
Paul

A company in China ...Cayin has reverse engineer,d Some good preamps & amps very close to Marantz mod. 7 & mod 9 plus the Citation II circuit designs. All at a very reasonable price. And they sound great....I can pick up the phone and have them make me a power cord like you describe. Plus shipping & still be cheaper than the exotic prices of cords here. And still sound great. We are in for a globle economic fight. If we cant compete You will be out on the street selling tamallies. Oh a Mexican tamallie is pretty hard to beat. All im saying is pushing high priced chords is coming to an end. If you can screw in a light bulb, Connecting 3 wires to a plug is not rocket science.

OCCAM....Im just trying to point out you dont have to spend $300. for 4 feet of power cord. I dont give a damn how honest a business you have. The mark up in manufacturing a product is 5 times its actual cost in making the product. If your a big time spender you wont mind. Just trying to save the poor slobs some cash. If you can screw in a light bulb into a socket, How hard is it to connect 3 wires to a plug.  I not talking rocket science here.  Im right your wrong & thats the end of this conversation.

5 times the cost? Your not talking into consideration the time and money it takes to listen to all the different types of cable out their. It’s called R&D and its very costly and time consuming.

I’ve tried picking up lots of wire on my own and making my own cords, IC’s and speaker cables. Most suck and in the long run its cheaper (although not as fun) to audition wires from a place like usedcables.com, find what you like (at no cost) and buy.

glad to see i've spawned such a spirited debate, and not to be ungrateful, but really, any synergies people have experienced between this bc pre and a good quality (whether $1 or $300) power cord?

Sabes...as mentioned, I have had success using an Audience powerChord with my Pre3 (the Pre3 and Pre2 are based on the same design, with the Pre3 stripping out stuff to fit in the eOne chassis).  Although I have not tried it on the Pre3, I've enjoyed good performance using a VHAudio Flavor 4 power cord on my Bel Canto eOne S300 amp.  I've tried an Acoustic Zen Tsunami Plus on the Pre3 and did not like it as much...less refined midrange being the main reason...

thanks, phil! i've actually got a powerchord on an audio refinement complete (in another setup) so will try swapping it out. i've also got a flavor 2 (not 4) on my headamp (singlepower mpx3) so will try that as well.

Bottom line...it's ALL about the money for these folks (sellers)..if they can scam some folks a few times a week/month out some top dollar cash claiming their stuff is the end all be all of the audio world, then they end up with nice big fat wallets while the poor guy who believed it is that much less "fat" in his wallet...

A shame to see so may charlatens (sp) running around here.
