Nathan,
With corwn molding it isn't possible to get the trainagles totally flush like I did in my previous house. Will this lessen the performance?
If it does impact things in a negative fashion, any suggestions?

It goes both ways. The product doesn't work as well if the sides are not the same distance from the wall surfaces. However, there isn't as much distortion with crown molding in place. It should balance out. Just put them in as best as you can.
