HT2's and HT3's coming to Burlington
«
on:
4 Apr 2006, 04:53 pm »
I have been playing around with speakers for the last 2 years of so, including some DIY, and am pleased to say that I will have the opportunity to hear some of the RAW speakers in my home, this month.
I have been seeking to hear some good full range floortstanders, and experiment with some ribbon tweeters also - this opportunity should sort me out on both accounts!
Al has generously agreed to produce two sets of speakers, a set of his floorstanding HT3's, and a set of the standmount HT2's.
I have contacted a number of AC members, and am inviting any and all in the greater Toronto area, to come and have a listen to these speakers, in my system, at my house.
I will post my thoughts on these, and I expect that anyone who comes over will do the same.
My system consists of the following, in my unfinished basement of approx 25x40x7.5:
Felicia power conditioner
Bolder PS and fully modded SB3
Gainclone amp
Bolder cabling (Nitro PC and IC, M-80 speaker cables)
I will be using the 24 inch Atlantis Reference stands that I have, for the HT2. The floorstanding HT3 will work fine too.
PM me if you want a listen, I will be sure to take some pics, and post when they arrive likely early next week or so.
Thanks again Al, for making this happen!

Yikes, 3 pairs of speakers, plus my DIY open baffle Visaton b200 creations, good thing it is a giant room!
I look forward to hearing those Extremis woofers, having read so much about them...
Thanks again Al, I will advise when the truck backs up to the house!

Getting a taste of Raw Acoustics sound

Pleasantly suprised that someone nearby will have Raw speakers to audition. I bought the Apex C kit on faith and intuition but have no actual experience with the sound. So I am very eager to have a listen. I live downtown Toronto and will be happy to reciprocate when I finish my kit.

i look forward to your review!
i wanted to demo the ht3's, but it looks like the tour in the US is over
i'm interested in these speakers, but there is only one review i can find on them (which is stickied on this forum). i'd like to hear more about these speakers in regards to soundstage, imaging, etc. and comparisons with other speakers before taking the plunge. its hard enough to buy speakers without hearing them first, much less buying speakers that hardly have any reviews.
i'm kind of disppointed in the outcome to the demo tour. i was looking forward to reading what people had to say about the speakers. it seems to have gotten many demos, but lead to only one detailed review posted.
can wait to hear what you have to say about them

Yes looks like Mark will have a good group for some reviews.
Lets see what happens with the guys on the east coast. And if we get some reviews or comments.
As for the demo pair (Maple)yes we stopped the tour. Why! We sold the demo pair that was going around without the new crossovers using Sonicap and Mills and we have not put another pair back out for Demo.
Will we put them back out?Yes if we get enough interested in the demo with the HT3 but at this time we have the HT2 demo going.
Will there be a demo for the HT8 or Apex II.
You never know!

I look forward to meeting you folks and hearing the speakers, I'm not familiar with Mark's system though, so it probably won't be a detailed "review".
OTOH, I live pretty close by - I may bring Mark my Omega 3's to hear...not really appropriate for the get together, but maybe I can leave them with him for a few days and borrow one of the RAW monitors in exchange? In that case I can post a review.

I will leave the details for any borrowing of speakers from me, to Al, and the respective borrower - if I get the OK from Al, then that is cool with me.
As for detailed or non-detailed reports, I figure that everyone who comes should be willing to post what they thought - they can frame it with whatever they think makes it viable.
I intend to have a couple of amps around, and I know that a fellow AC member will bring one too.
I will also have:
KIT41 speakers
RAW HT6
RAW HT2
RAW HT3
Sarchi's Omega's
My OB Visaton b200 speakers
I will have some refreshments, and I figure that it will naturally divide between listening downstairs, and chatting life and audio upstairs, in order to give folks a good crack at hearing the speakers, free of chatter etc.
Looking forward to getting home tonight, the boxes should be there soon!

Mark the HT6 can be added to that list as well.
Will be interesting to have some input for that new amp that is coming over as well.

Everything arrived perfectly intact, great packaging by Al, and solid boxes etc.
Wonderful build quality on these speakers, each is representative of solid build, attention to veneer, and nice tuning. Each is distinct, but they relate in some ways too.
We will have to sort out the perfect day - PM me if you are in the area, and want in!
My non-audiophile friend is already interested in the HT3's...

For guys that offer to hold a event as Mark is we offer them a discount for everone that is at the event for items ordered.
Makes getting people to these kind of events a big plus.
As well you get a chance to listen to a lot of speakers that others may have bought at the same time. All depends on the event that someone holds.
Really Mark had just offered to host a open day for people to stop by and listen to our
HT2 MTM
HT3 3way
HT6 MT long ribbon
And things are still as planned but I believe there may be some other speakers coming by as well.

Mumbes, they have arrived, and they are good. I won't go much further, I will let the people that come and hear them post what they think, since that is what this event is all about - exposing some folks to some good speakers, locally here in T.O.
The build quality is very good - solid cabinets, nice veneer work (that is what REALLY stands out to this DIY'er, the lovely appearance of professional work!), quality sound, and good engineering are all evident.
The ribbon here is something special, that needs to be heard - I have heard a broad number of tweeters in my day - Usher's 9950, Scanspeak's best, Vifa's best, and this one stands out for me. Admittedly it is the first ribbon I have heard in my house, but I have been exposed to other ribbons in salons before.
I am hoping that some folks can come this Sunday, and am hoping that the first weekend in May will also work - Al has allowed me to keep these for a couple of weeks to get some ears on them, and I will open my home a couple of times to accomodate that.
My very good non-audiophile friend came over, to see what my fuss was about - he left a convert to FLAC, and is seriously considering a set of the HT3's - he presently uses computer speakers, and has always considered himself more of a music lover (think 80g of MP3...) but now, having heard some good sound, he is in a period of transition!
I look forward to meeting some of you folks, and hope that some can come by, and play!

Thanks Mark
You have made my day!
Just need some directions and a time. I can give you a fax number if you prefer.
I have a pair of Explorer mono blocks by Antique Sound Labs with vintage tubes that I could bring. Unfortunately my pre amp is n't talking to me lately but if you have a pre I 'm game. I would also be willing to bring my new toy an Audiophile APS power supply.
Can not wait for a taste of RAW
