Bypassing Kmixer
« on: 27 Mar 2006, 12:49 pm »
Does the SB3 going digital out to a dac bypass the Windows Kmixer, etc, if you use the SB software?

If not, can you run different software, such as Foobar, upstream to feed the SB3?

Thanks

Yes. Even when you use the analog outputs of the SB3, the data goes from the hard drive through slimserver, then over the network to the SB3. The Windows audio drivers and kmixer, etc. are not involved. The SB3 is not like a USB DAC -- it is a network device and the PC is a server. It's conceptually similar to a USB DAC in that it's a device that can be wired to a PC to output sound, but the underlying mechanism is different.
