How Does One Make Cables Out of Magnet Wire?
« on: 18 Mar 2006, 10:08 pm »
Can someone tell me how to make interconnects and speaker cables out of magnet wire.

What gauge should I get?
Do I want any special brand or type?
Do I bundle a few wires together to make a thicker gauge or just use a single run?
Do I twist them (how many twists per foot) or just let them be or do I need to  space them?
Etc.

Is there a recipe page somewhere on the Internet?

A good place to look for ideas is Paul Speltz' site www.zeroimpedance.com. He sells his Anti-cable speaker cables and interconnects. The speaker cables are 12ga. Not sure about the IC's.

Here's an excellent place to go, and where I got a start making cables:

http://www.chimeralabs.com/diy_braid.html

Check out the rest of Dennis's website for lots more information on cables.  Making a 4 braid interconnect is not difficult, and a good way to start learning the technique.  Anti-cables are much the same, although not braided and use a bigger gauge wire.

Best place to get wire and tech flex is Michael Percy.
