Caution/warning guys & gals. I know many of us use Amazon images to show what we're listening to, and in other posts. This morning, roughly 6 hours ago I went there to post an image of "Best of Ian Matthews Southern Comfort". The Amazon image was small & not that good so I clicked on the posted customer image, BAD decision, in this case. While I've used probably hundreds of their customer images in the last couple of years, this one was not what it appeared. Immediately, and I mean literally immediately upon clicking the image my system crashed. The 1st time ever I've seen the 'blue screen of death', ever.
I have notified Amazon, will advise what if anything they get back to me on. As this computer, which is used primarily for internet communication had it's harddrive replaced roughly 1 month ago due to bad sectors, there is little chance there was another source of the problem ( little does not mean '0'). While the system went right into a reboot, I immediately disconnected the network connection. On reboot I got the MS Error message, "the system has recovered from a Major Error", & 'did I want to send an error message to Mr Softie'. I connected long enough for this to occur, and while connected it automatically brought up Internet Explorer, so I disconnected again.
I spoke with my computer tech, he advised I restore to a few days back, then run the Avast boot scan. This way any new item (in theory) wouldn't be hidden from a current scan. I performed that, which indicated no virus infection, I then ran a Malware scan which noted 1 item. I'm not savy enough to determine if this item came as a result of the occurance, but, just a note of caution to all. As we all know, but sometimes may forget, not all is as it appears in the cyberworld. Maybe it's a 1/1mil chance occurance, I would hope so. I simply offer the experience as info to possibly save someone 6 hrs of 'down-time' scanning for issues, or possibly worse.
It's entirely possible there will never be an answer to what happened, but then there may be some folks here who have the expertise and are capable/willing to attempt to duplicate the process to verify whether the problem was some glitch with my machine without causing their systems damage. I simply offer the information for what it's worth. And with all the above noted, I am not saying it wasn't something with my machine, just that all current information indicates it is highly unlikely. JD
