Thats an excellent idea of linking to the samples (I just noticed that you and some others do this on your posts). I'll have to try to remember to do that (especially on albums such as this that aren't that common) . And for this album, the samples do give a good representation of the songs (unlike some).

Mulatu Astatke/The Heliocentrics- Inspiration Information (Strut).  First heard on KTRU-FM, University of Rice radio in Houston, soon to be silent.  Man, this is some solar world music and jazzy stuff right here!  The maestro is from Ethiopia but has been living in London for years.  His musical head is from all over the place.  Shades of African and Eastern music, avant garde jazz, dub and ska, hypno groove and more, magnificently arranged.  Bass clarinet, tenor sax, trombone, vibraphone, keyboards, electric bass, oud, and a whole bunch of instrumentation rarely the same twice.  I couldn't get into the first track but everything else is a trip.  Man, this guy is some kind of writer/arranger (for wierd guys like me).

Peter Parcek: The Mathematics of Love (2010)

Quote
Buddy Guy once called Peter Parcek ''as bad as Clapton'' and Peter's new Mathematics of Love is proof-- an introduction to a guitar innovator whose distinctive playing incorporates gypsy jazz, folk, surf, rockabilly and other styles without compromising the roots and soul of the blues at its core.

New England blues.  8)    SAMPLES
