As Bill & Delta Wave were noting earlier, I've got (or had) vinyl on most of their domestic releases from Then Play On to Heroes are Hard to Find, as well as The Pious Bird of Good Omen. All of which I went thru and duped on CD, as well several earlier compilations.

A Belated Happy Birthday Paul  :thumb:  So you still hitting the track ?

I really need to make some more vinyl>CDs, it just gets sooooo tedious inserting track splits sometimes. Especially on some of epic progressive stuff where it's hard to tell where one track ends and another begins.

Do you have Bridge of Sighs on CD? If so, did you know there (at least) three different versions?

No I did not. I used to get so high listening to this, but those days are gone. Still, it sounds good with a glass of red wine.

I should have said 'with' rather than 'on' CD. At this point I've been to lazy to set up the old TT & do conversions. While I've most of the pieces necessary to do so, I've watched a friend who's done some for me of albums not available on CD.  As you note, you really really need to be into it, it's a time burner. Properly done they definetly exceed most CDs for dynamics, at least that's been my listening experience.

I usually rip them to 24/96 and store them on my PC, they do sound very good. The problem is once I get started I can't stop and end up doing it for like 18 hours straight. Another day I'll never get back.  :green:

Arthur, thanks for the sentiment.  That's a good idea converting lps>cds, but I'm too lazy.  I have about 2,000 lps, most of them from the 1960s-80s and almost none of them I have on cd.  It would be a nightmare for me to convert.

Unfortunately, I haven't raced a car going on five years now, or since my last full time job.  Most of my racing buddies have also stopped or cut back a lot because of the economy, so I don't even get a chance to crew for them.  I was a track junkie and really miss the action.  There's hope yet though, a few of them have started racing in the 24 hours of LeMons, a cheap racing series.  The idea is to field a racing car for no more than $500.  The winners purse is $1,500 (in nickels ).  I hear there's rampant cheating on the spending, but it still sounds like a lot of fun.  A racing buddy is planning on getting his MR2 out of mothballs next year.  He said I could co-drive a couple of track days to get the rust and cobwebs out of me.  I'm psyched and can't wait.

[Robin Trower - Bridge Of Sighs]

3 different versions? I have the original LP, don't have it on CD... how does the remastered CD sound?

The CDs sound better with each successive re-issue. The original Chrysalis CD was a straight copy of the LP. Sounds like they cut the CD using an EQ'd cassette master (Hardly surprising. The early Chrysalis CDs sounded like cr@p).

That was followed by a re-issue that included a KMET radio broadcast as bonus material. The sound went from muddy to brittle. The Disc was worth getting for the KMET broadcast.

The current CD has dropped the KMET broadcast, and added two BBC sessions. Sound quality a massive improvement. Simply, it sounds like it should. The BBC sessions are better performances than the KMET broadcast, and include a song or two that haven't shown up on any album. Highly recommended.

@ Arthur: Reckoning is my favorite catalog release. I've turned a dozen people on to the Dead with that record.

Currently listening to: Journey - Next

I love Juliana Hatfield. I've been a huge fan since her first band Blake Babies. Shoegaze is one of my favorite styles of music. It usually gets lumped into the huge "alternative" umbrella, so I can see why you haven't heard of it. Lots of "droning" guitars and loops. Some bands gave it a bad name by being overly repetitious, but there are plenty of gems in that category.

I'm a big J.H. fan too.  You're right, back in the late 1980s and early 1990s I was into a lot of alternative music and didn't know there were several different sub-categories.  I just used to lump them all together.  My favorite band of that period was and still is Bettie Serveert.

Bettie Serveert is an excellent band. For some reason I only have "Lamprey" on CD. I need to add a few more now that I think about it  8)
