Wagner: Die Walküre (not all of it), Karl Elmendorff, conducting

Two CD set (mostly) of recordings made at the Staatskapelle of Dresden, in September of 1944. The recordings were made on magnetic tape, rolling at 30.4 ips. The performances are wonderful (all one takes), with the quality of the recording being a little creepy.

As the war was going badly for Germany, about half of the second disc are acetate recordings from December of 1944, with Kurt Striegler conducting.

Maybe a bit much for the casual listener, but, those technically oriented definitely need to check this out.

I love this band! I saw them last summer with The New Pornographers & Death Cab for Cutie. With an electric cello, electric violin & stand up bass they are like a little chamber orchestra playing rock n roll.
