Anat Cohen -Notes from the Village

Rising jazz star Anat Cohen leads her New York all-star quartet through fresh originals, tunes by Fats Waller, John Coltrane, Sam Cooke and Ernesto Lecuona. This captivating, soulful album builds on Cohen's acclaimed 2007 releases 'Noir' and 'Poetica' capturing the thrilling energy of her live shows, and proving her to be an artistically adventurous writer and performer.

Bon Iver -For Emma, Forever Ago

Justin Vernon began recording as Bon Iver following the breakup of DeYarmond Edison, an indie folk group similar in tone and manner to Iron & Wine, Little Wings and, to a certain extent, Bonnie "Prince" Billy. Pronounced 'bohn eevair', it is French for "good winter" which is spelled wrong deliberately. This debut CD is centered around Justin Vernon, who is the primary force behind Bon Iver, as he moved to a remote cabin in the woods of Northwestern Wisconsin at the onset of winter, alone for three months. From this solitary time emerged a bold, uninhibited new musical focus of all his personal trouble, lack of perspective, heartache, longing, love, loss, and guilt that had been stockpiled over the past six years into songs.

Aziza Mustafa Zadeh: Dance of Fire  (1995)

Very provocative jazz with a Russian folk song flavor, sample here. Supporting Aziza on this album is Stanley Clarke, Al Di Meola, and Bill Evans.

Cool, Robin. If I remember correctly, that album came about when the group wanted to retool their sound (they already recycled most of their songs from album to album) to act as the soundtrack for a non-existant movie, hence the name. Their two earlier albums tend to show slightly stronger jazz and rock influences.

George Clinton and His Gangsters of Love
Come on Georgie, you can do better than this. Sonics is average, and only about 1/2 of the tracks truly clicks. Some interesting guests the likes of Sly, RZA, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Santana, and others. But what worked for Herbie Hancock's River, doesn't quite gel here. Gelling? Not quite like McGellin'.

George Duke, faces in reflection
Remastered Originals series of a '74 release. Those were the years of innovative jazz-funk-fusion. Some very weird sound effects, trips you out cold turkey...like cocaine running around in the back of your brain, or what's left of it.  :thumb:

Donna Summer crayons
First album in 17 years. Well, ummm...she needs to let go of the disco era, crown and all, sorry babe we are a republic now, no more monarchy. I bailed out 1/2 way through, was gettin' a lil' late in the night for this type of vibe. Will reserve judgement until I play the whole thing-a-ling.
