Saw a thread somewhere about best remakes or alternate versions of well known songs and happened to be listening to one at the time* so I thought I would give it a shot.  Here's five I can think of:

Moondance (Van Morrison)- Bobby McFerrin (really good, too)
Will You Love Me Tomorrow (Carole King)- Dianne Reeves (likewise)
Private Lives (The Pretenders)- Grace Jones
*Maiden Voyage (Herbie Hancock)- Bobby Hutcherson
Trouble Man (Marvin Gaye)- Rickie Lee Jones

Kenny Garrett, sketches of MD: live at the Iridium.

Recorded live at the Iridium...My 'feeling' is that Pharoah Sanders elevated the album from 'quite good' to 'very good' status. I heard a lot of Kenny in the latter 80's into the 90's, so I am very familiar with his 'sound'.
Check it out: http://www.amazon.com/Sketches-MD-Kenny-Garrett/dp/B001DGSGOW

And now...

Quote
Like the late Shirley Horn, another fine singer-pianist, Barber never rushes, often floating over and behind the beat, slowing it down or half-timing it; on "Just One of Those Things" she lags the beat, while Potter and the band swing out, her voice insinuatingly sultry to the point of exhaling the title phrase and stretching of the "ings" in "things."
Like her or leave her...she sure knows how to caress a tune. I like just about every album I have of hers, this is her 10th, I probably have about 5 or 6. She is consistent.  :thumb:

How can you not love the "method-to-the madness" that is Radiohead?

Hey Robin  :thumb:

On this album Paul Rodgers does it for me more than Jimmy Page. JMHO, YMMV, etc.

They really do ROCK together, though!  :thumb:

Have fun,
Jerry

That's a pretty good take on Patricia Barber, MJ, and I'm knowing some guys who wanna check out a Kenny Garrett live album.  Thanks.  And to put a face on Shirley Horn, she, too, has a live in Paris disc that's fine.  Verve gets the sound right pretty much all the time.

WEST

The new limited edition EP
This is disc two of the four Compass EP's.

Only 300 will be pressed
each signed and numbered.

Track 2 is as good as it gets

Ego Likeness - I Live On What's Left Lyrics
Broke in my hand
This was never the plan
But I guess since it's here
I'll stay strong where I stand
I'm falling apart
My name used to be grace
But now if you call me
Just call me misplaced
I feel with my core
No more with my hands
I see through a blindness
You don't understand
I reach for the quiet...I live on what's left
You can't take it back
The life that you've led
But I've spread myself thin here
Spread myself on the bed
(Almost spread myself dead)
I reach for the quiet...I live on what's left
It's out of my hands
This was never my plan
But I guess since it's here
I'll stay strong where I stand
I reach for the quiet...I live on what's left
