Nope...just picked this one up couple weeks ago. I like this sound, so will be checking out his other albums.  :thumb:

Just sampled 'Just Play'...I think the group has come a long way since then...10-12 years makes for a lotta' territory covered.

Taj Mahal: Maestro (2008)

As was the case with Dave Mason's new album, Taj Mahal isn't getting just older, he's getting better. This is one of his best albums with a potpourri of supporting artists. :thumb:

DIAMONDS AND RUST-  JOAN BAEZ (A&M).  Is the title song a perfect song or what?  Just realizing that it has a kinda Leonard Cohen ring to it.  Hadn't listened to it in years (bringing out old records tonite).

Interesting tones by this jazz quintet...notably Grismore use of a guitar synth that sounds like a sitar.
Echos of Weather Report, Ornette's PrimeTime...

Do you have Grimore's 1st album, Just Play? It's much more palatable for me than Well behaved Fish imo,,,, but I'm not turning my nose up to it.

Cheers,
Robin

Lets go....catch up......

Hey I'm old and slooow...doin' my best here...
I picked that one up at the Record Fair...$1.  aa
Now if I had rushed out and buy it then, woulda cost me much more...

Debut from the Chicago bassist and composer. Very nice.
Quote
Bassist Bryan Doherty's debut album opens with a bass groove vaguely reminiscent of something Jaco Pastorius might have done in Weather Report. Over the top of this, what sounds like a couple of horns (though there's only one sax player) lay out a thick melodic line that eventually moves into a groove. This is the pattern for much of the album -- grooves that build to full compositions that devolve back into grooves.

Wrong!!! It's actually late nite listening. If you don't belive me, ask Lonewolf. My bedtime ranges from 4am to 7am and I get up at noon,,, just like I did when I was a teenager.  I worked 2nd shift for 35 years but I'm currently unemployed. I always considered staying up all night after getting out of work at 11pm just a part of enjoying the fruits of my labor. 8) Today it's just a habit of mine,,, plus the fact everyone knows the music sounds the best from 1am to 7am. :thumb:

Cheers,
Robin
