Pretenders Self Titled LP
That album is one of the top rock albums of decade, IMO.  Saw Chrissie Hyde on Letterman a few weeks doing "Precious".  Had her original drummer, too.  That son of a gun has impeccable timing on this and all thru the record.  First, you have to like the band.  If you do, that album is spectacular and I believe it's cause her producer was foremost a fan.  Like Me.  Good, pure and raw sound!

A final act for this Swiss pianist...
Quote
The album is a mix of jazz evergreens, a piece by Thelonius Monk and his own original compositions, such as the opening track, «Speroid I». The latter, one jewel among many, starts with a short musical motif intersperced with silences and establishes a captivating atmosphere from the outset. Fredi Luescher lithely unfolds an easy jazz which at times hovers on the edge of classical music before coming back to a more swinging sound like in «I Thought about You». The album takes us to settings that are slightly mysterious or willingly contemplative, serene or more melancholic: Luescher’s jazz flows easily and stays in your head. In short, a beautiful album, to be discovered without hesitation and savoured at home. (Hélène Koch/T. C. Kiolbassa)

Improvised works for reeds and cello/violin.
Quote
Wright is joined by cellist/vocalist Bob Marsh, with whom he’s played since 1986 while both men were living in Detroit. Like Wright, Marsh has spent the last several years playing with musicians whose improvisations are only tangentially related to free jazz . Unsurprisingly, then, Birds In The Hand is based on texture and timbre – extended techniques are an important part of Wright and Marsh's vocabularies. Wright often plays weird squeaks and pops, while Marsh scrapes and bounces his bow against the strings of his cello.

Today, for background music, I was listening to original 80's pop-rock recordings (Phil Collins, etc..) made on my 1985 Realistic SCR-21 boombox that have since been converted to MP3's. It was allot of fun listening to music recorded back in my grade school days, live! The music was being piped through a rebuilt Motorola tube stereo amplifier upgraded with Amperex (GTC) output transformers and a massive filter choke. The speakers used were large commercial units with 15" Eminence woofers w/ cast aluminum baskets, paper accordion surrounds and titanium horn tweeters using 30oz magnets and very large lenses. All it took was a couple of watts (if that) for good room filling sound. Yeah- the tape hiss came through loud and clear.  Didn't matter-  it was still VERY enjoyable.
