Great performances, incredible live recording, cool guest artists. Just got it Saturday and already a new favorite.

Dolores [IMPORT]
Bohren & der Club of Gore

This is a good description i stole from another of there cd's

Dark, dark atmospheres are created here. The band describes themselves as "horror jazz", which is close to what they sound like (although not in a schizophrenic John Zorn sorta way). The music is slow and brooding and very dark. Despite it's slowness and "jazziness" (although it certainly doesn't swing), this album is HEAVY - not in a distorted, down-tuned guitar kind of way, but in a CRUSHING ATMOSPHERE kind of way. This is the kind of music that overtakes you - the kind of music that when you listen to, you can't move or do anything, you're just paralyzed by the sheer weight of it all.  makes you feel like the demons of hell are returning from below, reaching into your chest, and trying to take your soul. Highly recommended.

Missy Higgins - On a Clear Night (2008)
Good

Steve Glotzer - Acoustic Christmas (2001)
Starting to round out and gather up the Christmas playlist.  Stumbled on this one in a used CD shop in Nashville a while back.  First listen.  Enjoyable acoustic guitar.

+1.  I liked this, the ending of the last track almost ruined the whole listen, but it will see more play from me.

Couldn't find samples online.  Concert footage on Youtube is horrible.  But one little recital with solo piano accompaniment on Youtube of a tune named "Cry" caused me to pull the trigger on this album (couldn't get the link to work here).
Jim,
I found samples for this at allmusic.
Just click on the picture of the speaker between the track number and the title.
Here you go:

Here's a link to her discography.  The CD titles with a speaker next to them mean samples are included for that CD.
Just click on the CD title and it will take you to the samples.

Bless you, Captain, that is a mighty fine gesture.  I ordered this already based on the recital piece I saw on Youtube "Cry".  That piece is a more classically styled vocal but tells a lot.  She's an exciting new find, I think you would agree.  This sounds like it's gonna be very good.  I hope I can return the favor.  If you like live in the club straigtahead jazz, don't hesitate to order Live at Fat Tuesday's by Kenny Barron in a quintet.  Just about the time you may begin to wonder what is Jim so fired up about, it will start to get potent!  Jim recommends that you then turn up the volume to STUN.

BTW, I used to fly into New Orleans on business.  The first thing I'd do when I got into a rental car was turn the radio on (to the channels at the left hand end of the dial, of course).  I put New Orleans FM up there with the best.  I like the cuisine almost this much, too.  Cheers.

That's a nice brew, Mj, and what a pleasure it is to be able to hear samples this long.
