Extended Guitars
(July 2, 2008)

Extended Guitars is a tabletop guitar quartet featuring Erhard Hirt, Hans Tammen, Nick Didkovsky, and Keith Rowe. Rowe was not able to make their gig at Issue Project Room in July 2008, and they kindly asked me to sit in for him. I canabalized a bunch of motors and mechanisms from various installations and hooked them up to contact mics and electromagnetic pickups. We played two toe-tapping 35 minute improvised sets. Nick and I also did a short duet as a sound check. I bled

Well,
I've been listening to either soundtracks, or getting leads off of soundtracks.  Watched 'Teeth' last night, a funny black humor movie, and the end song was by Chuck Prophet.  Had to order 'Homemade Blood' off of Amazon.
On the car, I have rediscovered Y Tu Mama Tambien Soundtrack.  Very good, though spotty, as various artists soundtracks can be.  Was stunned how much I loved the guitar extended solo on the last track, only to find it was my old friend, Frank Zappa.

Song selection
1. Here Comes the Mayo
2. Sirenita - Tonino Carotone, ,
3. To Love Somebody
4. Showroom Dummies - Señor Coconut
5. Insomnio - Café Tacuba,
6. Cold Air - Natalie Imbruglia
7. Go Shopping
8. Tumba Será el Final
9. Afila el Colmillo - Mala Rodríguez, , Titan,
10. Ocean in Your Eyes - Miho Hatori, Smokey Hormel
11. Nasty Sex
12. By This River - Brian Eno
13. Si No Te Hubieras Ido - Marco Antonio Solís
14. Watermelon in Easter Hay - Frank Zappa

Robin, great youtube hookup. Loved the "Disco" show title. Another surprise find at a local used book/cd  store. Had the album thirty odd years ago.

Agreed. Although, I'd also give props to Mike Bloomfield for his guitar work on this album.

Edit: I should read the liner notes more often.  :)

Her High, Lonesome Days
Cat Mary

Biography

The Cat Mary is an inadvertently not-for-profit institution, comprised of anywhere from 5 to 7 members, depending on the whims of fate, and we play original music which is equal parts ragtime ephemeralist (thanks Chris Ware!), country blue underthings, post-blah blah jazz, 20th Century cereal music, and good old American song carpentry.

If you dig the title track try to hunt this one down :

The album contains 3 versions East-West totaling about 60 minutes . The fidelity isn't exactly audiophile but each version is excellent and the last one is exceptionally mind blowing .
