Billie Holiday - Lady in Satin

This 200 gram audiophile vinyl pressing from Classic Records is very worthwhile.
I won't go into the music too much because a great deal has already been
written about it.  Some have described Holiday's voice as harrowing
near the end of her life and on this album in particular.  Personally I find
that it makes for an interesting contrast with the string arrangements
of Ray Ellis.  It's certainly a must own for any fan of Billie Holiday, and
recommended for jazz fans in general.

Frank Sinatra - A Swingin' Affair

Sinatra and Nelson Riddle.  What's not to like?  While overall not quite
as strong as the brilliant Songs for Swingin' Lovers, there is a great
slate of first-rate tunes.  Nelson Riddle, the orchestra, and Sinatra are
in fine form.  I also love the cover art: couples swingin' to an American
Original.  One of my favorite songs on this record is the Cole Porter tune,
At Long Last Love.  Though my favorite performance is not
on this album.  For that you will need to see the TV special he did
with Ella Fitzgerald and Antonio Carlos Jobim some 10 years after this
album was recorded.  Here is a clip from YouTube with Frank and Ella
singing a medley of They Can't Take That Away From Me,
Stompin' at the Savoy, and At Long Last Love.

Got to see these guys do an acoustic set in a really small venue here in town. We got seated in the first row. The show was fantastic.

Hey!

Listening to Vivaldi "Le Quattro Stagioni", Iona Brown, Academy of St. Martin-in-the-fields. Philips record label.

And here something you don't see people here say often. This is on Cassette Tape! From 1980! I picked this tape up at a flea market for $1 about two weeks ago along with another classical tape from London ffrr "Treasury Series" Music for Four Harpsichords J.S. Bach, The English Chamber Orchestra Raymond Leppard, from 1967. The tape looks like it from 1979

And the surprising part with this is that these two old cassette tapes sound very good! Very surprised! :o

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:
