The word Trepanation refers to the, now abandoned, practice of removing a piece of the skull to relieve pressure on the brain. This practice was used to treat a number of psychological conditions. Markus initially visualised the music on this release being a less invasive method of achieving similar goals.

Ho- I like Nyro quite a lot. Especially having seen her on The Complete Monterey Pop DVD. She is a little diamond on this. You can feel her. Got Smile by her. She's got Richard Davis on bass on this. Her jazzist effort, I believe. Better on vinyl than CD.

Indeed Jim, Laura Nyro was also a terrific songwriter. Her songs were covered by Blood Sweat and Tears, the Fifth Dimension and even Barbara Streisand. She was well ahead of her time. She cut back on her live performances after some ignorant clowns boo'ed her off stage. Check out "It's Gonna Take a Miracle" the LP she did with the group Labelle. IMHO, its the best coming together of cover songs ever. The song "The Bells" really gets into me every time I hear it.
