mj- Jimmy Bennington . . oh that is good (freakin 30 second sound bites). I got a disc of an octet called 8 Bold Souls that this reminds me of (can't figure out how I filed it last I listened or I would say more). I can tell you this, there is a cello player named Diedre somethinganother on this that can wretch more soul out of her instrument than Jacqueline DuPre. Stupendous bass, too. I think you might dig this.
Diedre Murray? I heard her at the annual Vision Jazz Festival a couple years ago...she is very good. Don't think I have her on record...I know she has recorded with Henry Threadgill..I need to check my library
She is in residence here in the City.
By the way I just got Jacqueline DuPre complete EMI recordings, all 17 discs...haven't cracked the plastic yet.
But yes, Jimmy Bennington was a nice find...very good sonics and performance...the last track was the icing on the whole cake, " what are you doing the rest of your life?" came out of the blue...
