Trombonist Luis Bonilla and his band, Trombonilla , recorded live at NYC Jazz Gallery in early 2005. Formerly a member of LesterBowie Brass Fantasy and the Mingus Big Band, he leads his band through a set of lengthy original compositions that covers tradition, freeform and Latin jazz...the excellent recording captures the live atmosphere and delicate interplay amongst the band's members. 4 stars.

Interesting dub mix of rock, hip-hop and eastern musical elements...the quality of recording is a low point to this fine album. Waveform recordings are usually much better. Worth the listen.

Its pretty good.....heard one song on the radio (WFUV)....liked it...rest of the tunes are very enjoyable.

Calexico is Joey Burns and John Convertino of Giant Sand. Their fourth album is a masterpiece of beauty and diversity, with desert-rock guitar interplay to expansive noir-ish sweep to full-mariachi grandeur. 16 Tracks. Quarterstick. 2003.

I'm down with Dolphy with Mingus, too. But Calexico is news. After having heard the samples, it's in my check out cart. This is open road music. It'll be coming with me across Texas on my way to NM. Thanks, yo's. This is exactly what I'm talkin about as if you didn't know. I visit a website in Singapore. Man, I can't crack an egg over there. Jason Moran, soundtrack to human motion this I believe was his debut album as a leader...and it was a great start...very inventive compositions, group format and performances.

Man...this is good stuff...just got this today, music to trip out by...2-cd set recorded live around the world in 1993...I love it.
