I feel like I've been listening to this album non-stop since my wife got it for me for our anniversary at the beginning of october. On first listen I wasn't thrilled. But I can't stop listening. The songs just seem so...completely right. I've always been a huge fan of Mark Knopfler's, but this album is appealing in a completely new way for me.
Of all the Dire Straits albums, "Brothers in Arms" always seemed the weirdest. Much of the material was forgettable (for me). But then there was the title track that just seemed to be absolutely perfect, and maybe the most wonderful thing I'd ever heard. All this time, I've been thinking it was perfect because of the guitar work he does on it. But now, it just seems like a perfect song...much like a whole bunch of the tunes from this new album are wonderful songs.
Don't expect orgasmic guitar solos. But if you listen to this, maybe you'll appreciate MK's song writing in a way you've never imagined.
