Deadfish,

You've just inspired me...there's another remaster from 2001 here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000059N1S/ref=pd_kar_gw_3/103-4673649-8829425?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=5174

Just ordered it...will let you know how it sounds...

Unfortunately, this one is somewhat disapointing.  Not bad sound...but when I listen to "The Real Me", I expect to hear that bass line j ...

Real sorry to hear that Phil.  I know exactly what you mean about 'The Real Me' bass line...  Kind of what I got out of the cd of the original album.
Guess I'm gonna have to go find the vinyl again...tsk...(and perhaps 'Who Are You' yet again on cd..)
For such a fine album, which IMHO is perhaps the best of The Who at the top of their game, I'm surprised some inspired recording engineer hasn't gotten involved....  Guess he never heard 'The Real Me' done right...
Thanks for the update!!  Damn, now I want to hear it more!!:guitar: (This guy just ain't hard enuf!!)

Regards,
DeadFish

...and now, for my listening pleasure, on vinyl...

You know, the folks over at Rhino Records did an awesome job remastering Yes' "Fragile" album, including that other bassline-for-the-ages tune..."Roundabout".  Maybe if enough of us wrote in to Rhino, they could make it happen... 8)

I will take that as a recommendation of their 'Fragile', Phil.
Thanks!!  Glad to hear there is an upgrade to the Atlantic/BMG version I've got.

This has sure been a great thread for recommendations.

I have both their remasters of Fragile and Close to the Edge, and they did a stellar job on each...

Thanks for the info, Phil.  I don't pay $24 (including shipping) for CDs very often, but if the remastered Fragile is as good as you say, it'll be worth it.

Guess DeadFish and I can compare notes in a week or so, right Bill?

I'll be ready in a day or two, DU!
Had to go get new tractor blades at 'The Mall', so a swing past Best Buy had me helpless when I found 'Fragile'.
I'm a-ripping to the Squeezebox folder as I type.  :smoke:
Definitely a long time favorite!

Thanks again for the tip, Phil!  Of course, now I've gotta go find 'Close to the Edge' when this turns out.

Best,
DF

No sweat.

Cancelled the order with Rhino, spent $5 more at Amazon and picked-up Ben Harper's Fight for Your Mind while I was at it.

Thanks again for the suggestion...and the pointer in the right direction.

Jim

PS - Have you heard Yes' remastered self-titled CD?  I like it a little better than Close to the Edge, but don't need to pull the trigger if it isn't a worthwhile improvement.
