Beach Boys – Pet Sounds (Mono Reissue) Analogue Productions 2026

As someone who didn’t previously own Pet Sounds and the fact that I like Beach Boys, I placed a pre-order the moment I heard about this reissue.

While many reviewers are raving that this is the definitive, best-ever copy, I cannot compare it to an original mono pressing since I don't own one. However, judged on its own merits, it is a highly impressive release.

I played this mono cut using a stereo cartridge with my pre-amp switched to mono, though I am curious how much a dedicated mono cartridge would further improve the sound.
Overall, the audio quality is excellent. Despite being a mono recording, it offers a remarkable sense of space, depth, and layering. I even noticed an impressive sense of height in the soundstage.

Here are my standout track observations:

   ◦   "I’m Waiting for the Day": The presentation is incredibly analytical. It is almost too detailed, to the point where you can clearly hear the vocalists breathing between words.
   ◦   Side II: Every track on this side sounds massive, defying the limitations of a mono mix.
   ◦   "God Only Knows": This track sounds absolutely huge and amazing, bursting with intricate, fascinating instrumental textures.
   ◦   "I Know There’s an Answer": The separation on the vocals and instruments is so distinct that it almost tricks the ears into thinking it is a stereo mix.
   ◦   "Pet Sounds": The title track delivers a beautiful, immersive wall of sound.
   ◦   "Caroline, No": The closing track features a brilliant outro. The sound effects of the barking dogs and the oncoming train create a stunning physical presence; the train feels like it is heading straight for you before steaming past at the very last second.
While this version is excellent, I remain a stereo enthusiast at heart. I would love to see this same level of care applied to a high-quality stereo reissue in the future.

Would I say it’s a must have, if you are a Beach Boys fan and don’t have a copy already then maybe.

If you do want a copy and don’t already have it, I think you are out of luck as I believe it’s already sold out, they only pressed 6000 copies  :nono:. Well 6000 copies, don’t think that is actually true as I have seen at least 3 different reviewer with copies numbered 0000 / 6000

Pirates of the Caribbean - The curse of the black pearl

This sound track sounds amazing, well worth buying. I have been after this soundtrack for a while but could never find it on vinyl.
This vinyl copy is black translucent, very cool.

I have to admit I stopped watching the films after the first one, I just thought the films were pure cheese. But must say this soundtrack is amazing, Hans Zimmer’s sound tracks are always good.

Wife is out of town whelping puppies tonight, so I've got it cranked. Neighbors may be a little... perturbed. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
