Every week I listen to a bunch of new music streams on the Internet. For the albums coming out Feb 17, I liked three albums enough to purchase them next week.
Love Stuff - Elle King
I had never heard of her before. I am currently listening to it for the second time. It is streaming on the NY times press play interactive site. This album is all over the map in regards to type. Her voice is oddly compelling throughout all the songs, that range from Pop to Blues to Jazz. There are some twangy banjo sounds also.
Mourn - Mourn
Female fronted teenage punk band from Barcelona Spain. This was on a stream a couple of weeks ago. There are a couple of current songs on YouTube and soundcloud.
Ibeyi - Ibeyi
Soulful Afro-Cuban influenced sounds by twin sisters. Keyboards, percussion, female vocals. There appear to be some Bjork influences in the music. This is streaming on NPR this week.
This is what I liked. I am partial to female vocals and tend to gravitate in that direction when choosing what to listen to.
Almost Famous by Slutever, Should the Light Go Out by Twin River, and North Highlands by North Highlands were also pretty good.
