Wire - 154 (1979)
SamplesI found out tonight that an old Navy buddy of mine passed away. We lost contact some time ago, and this wasn't recent, but it still shocked me. Tim Gibbs was the guy who first introduced me to post-punk and new wave music. When I was stationed at the Naval Ice Center in the late 80's and early 90's we used to play music in the office on Fridays - usually from noon until we secured for the weekend. After my very first tape ended, Tim came to me afterwards and said "I'm going to give you one of my tapes on Monday. I think you're going to like it." Well, the tape he gave me had bands called "Wire", "Magazine", and "Gang of Four". Stuff I'd never heard before. On the first listen I was like "huh? What kind of shit is this?", but it quickly grew on me. Next think I know we were making regular trips to Tower Records in D.C blowing fairly significant wads of cash. During every visit he would throw a couple discs in my basket and say "Trust me, you're going to like this". I always did. His influence on my music collection is everywhere. He's responsible for most of the music that I currently own. I'm sure he'd be proud of what he created
Tim's favorite album was Wire "154". His favorite song: "Map Ref. 41°N 93°W" (same album).
