Branford Marsalis: The Beautyful Ones Are Not Yet Born
Branford Marsalis - saxophones, Robert Hurst III - bass, Jeff Watts - drums

If you check this album out on Amazon, you might just find the following customer review, posted under the heading "A smooth baby pumpkin...":

While lolli-pop music is down on her knees lapping up the putrefaction from the Viper Room floor, there's a snapping subpopular crackle coming down from the shadier side of Sunset. 'The Beautyful Ones' is appropriately quick, clean & untitivated jazz, and by that very first pitch of Charlie's Rousted About, you will call it coarse music made only for crazy people, or you will call it crazy people music make just for me.

Hope may float, and Hope may spring, but only true love can surf through a wedding ring.

Astonishingly, Amazon reports that 2 out of 12 people found this review helpful.

"Bluesette that Satfrat posted is one of the best known dates that was headed by Fuller. Youtube has some videos of the man in action. There's a set from the 1993 Mt Fuji Japanese jazz fest that plays for over 8 minutes which features Fuller doing Five Spot After Dark with Benny Golson, Ron Carter, Mulgrew Miller, Terumasa Hino and Billy Higgins."

Holy shite, Ho, I love ALL those cats on that date!  I will "tube" that shortly.  And Kyyuan, those do look interesting.  Ya think Robin has a thing for the ladies (to which I can relate)?  My experience of Hino was in some European fusion recordings in which he was permitted to rip!  Like, Joachim Kuhn- Hip Elegy (MPS).  Alphonse Mouzon on skins.  John Lee, Philip Catherine, a little treasure I hold dear.

Chad, I would be one of the people who thinks Branford Marsalis is the best player of his instrument (s) in modern time.  Thanks.

Varttina - Ilmatar

Quote
...the Finnish group Varttina delves deep into the darker side of their culture and mythology, producing music that is haunting, startling, redolent with mood and reminiscent of ancient shamanic epics. The focus here is on the stark, dissonant harmonies of the four female singers--Susan Aho, Mari Kaasinen, Kirsi Kahkonen and Riikka Vayrynen.

The wife's at her friends house so I can crank it up. This one has some wonderful sonics.
Hmmm…popular subject.
