That Pain of Salvation has to be one of the most pretentious album covers I've ever seen but I suppose their target market will eat it up.

I think it is a cheesy cover, but what is pretentious about it?  I don't see it.

Yesterday I was listening to The Newport Folk Festival off and on throughout the day.  Today's lineup includes Gillian Welch, Trey Anastasio, Calexico, and Brandi Carlile.  See the above link for exact times etc.

All the individual concerts will be available "on demand" throughout the coming week!

I think it is a cheesy cover, but what is pretentious about it?  I don't see it.
Because it is pointedly designed to get a response from a certain market segment.  Call me a prude but exploitation is offensive to me.

Isn't that what marketing is designed to do?

It's just that for me there are boundaries.  There is good taste and there is bad taste.  At one end there is subtlety and wit, and originality is nice.  At the other there is blatant jerkin somebody off.  But I'm learnin to live with it.
