I don't have any of the Flaming Lips albums, but I looked at their Discography. They sure have a lot of albums! With XTC, I am missing Go 2, Big Express, and Wasp Star (Apple Venus Volume 2) as far as studio albums go which are also random.
My focus right now is filling in the gaps of my collection.XTC is high on my list to complete. Great stuff!
That is what I was trying to do with XTC also. I think I have three more left to have all the studio albums.
don't forget the dukes of stratosphear.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dukes_of_Stratospheardoug s.
I bought "Chips from the Chocolate Fireball" two months ago
when i first heard "the dukes", i had no idea they were someone else. doug s.
The only reason I knew is because I read the music review in Stereophile a long time ago. If I had only heard their music I would have never known it was them.
Based on your posts I think you'd like the Flaming Lips. It took me a long time to let go of my unfavorable image of them "She Don't Use Jelly", but now that I have I consider them one of my favorite American bands - along with The Replacements and Mercury Rev. Listen to "The Soft Bulletin" when you get a chance. I think it's one of their best.
After listening to the new release, I will check out some of their albums before I make a decision to purchase any of them. I hadn't run across any of them used either. I liked what I heard.I like the Replacements also, only have a few more of those to pickup. Been mainly just picking up what music I can find inexpensively even if I was not specifically looking for it. Have been going in many different directions musically.
A lot of people are selling their CD's and moving towards digital playback, but there are some bands I've never seen in the used bins. Outside of eBay and Amazon I've never seen XTC or The Flaming Lips in a used bin. People just don't let them go!I know what you mean about all the different musical directions. That's why I'm concentrating on my gaps now, even though that is turning into a very expensive route (seems there's a good reason why I'm missing them). I need to slow down for a while anyway. At last count I purchased 98 discs during the month of June alone. I'll need to buy more storage if I keep that up
I digitize my CDs when I get them and run them off a server. Storage is becoming an issue. I actually need to listen to all the ones I purchased. In June, I think I bought around 80 or so albums. Seems like singer/songwriters and recent bands with popular songs end up in the used bins.
