Banks of Eden - The Flower Kings

Hey WC!

How is that new Flower Kings CD?

I used to be a big fan, but they kind of started to repeat themselves.

I kind of liked the fusion feel they had (I believe on Unfold the Future?) and wish they continued in that direction.

This sounded a bit to me like a Yes album. First time I had ever listened to them, so I can't really compare it to any of their earier albums. I liked the album.

The perfect party band...hire them for your party and be guaranteed ravers will be exhausted by the end of the night.
Caught them live last Saturday, and it was the 'baddest' of the all the live concerts I ever been to...

It took me over a year to find one of these signed by all four members of
the band. Definitely in the top 10 of my rarities collection.

Wire - 154 (1979)

I found out tonight that an old Navy buddy of mine passed away. We lost contact some time ago, and this wasn't recent, but it still shocked me. Tim Gibbs was the guy who first introduced me to post-punk and new wave music. When I was stationed at the Naval Ice Center in the late 80's and early 90's we used to play music in the office on Fridays - usually from noon until we secured for the weekend. After my very first tape ended, Tim came to me afterwards and said "I'm going to give you one of my tapes on Monday. I think you're going to like it." Well, the tape he gave me had bands called "Wire", "Magazine", and "Gang of Four". Stuff I'd never heard before. On the first listen I was like "huh? What kind of shit is this?", but it quickly grew on me. Next think I know we were making regular trips to Tower Records in D.C blowing fairly significant wads of cash. During every visit he would throw a couple discs in my basket and say "Trust me, you're going to like this". I always did. His influence on my music collection is everywhere. He's responsible for most of the music that I currently own. I'm sure he'd be proud of what he created  8)

Tim's favorite album was Wire "154". His favorite song: "Map Ref. 41°N 93°W" (same album).

Here's to you Tim. R.I.P. my brother.

Bottoms Up!

Slush,

Your buddy would also be proud of you for carrying on the tradition. We've never met but you've dropped a few (thousand) discs in my basket over the last few years. I credit you with introducing me to; Wire, The Chameleons, Killing Joke, Hum just to name a few favorites.

A salute to you and your friend for your service to our nation and thanks to you both for spreading joy.

Thanks Wndrmke!

Tim had a positive influence on everyone he met. His two passions were Civil War history and music. He could talk for hours about both. The guy was a living encyclopedia of post-punk music.

Your favorites are similar to mine. Since you like The Chameleons you should give The Comsat Angels a listen (if you haven't already). Some of their albums are really tough to find, but worth the effort. "Sleep no More" is my favorite, but it's almost impossible to find on CD for a decent price. "Fiction" and "The Glamour" are still very reasonable. They're an amazing band. I could listen to them for hours.

Thanks again for the kind words.

I saw you were listening to Monster. MOG didn't have that box set available, but they did have this one. I liked it. I will try some of the others and maybee some more Pere Ubu albums.
