The incomparable Sassy.
Here's an Email I just sent to my daughters....I'm lazy.....but this is what I'm listenng to
There are many, and I mean many very young female singers ( 100 to 1 over men) who have been exposed to jazz and love/want to follow a career in this vein. BTW I met one in Hawaii where I bought a glass-blown ornament ....she said she was hooked on Billie Holliday.
Ladies, as American Idol approaches and the wannabe singers leave everything out in the open as to their influences obviously they will be overwhelmingly Pop/Rock oriented.
But to those out there influenced by Jazz and all it's critic named offshoots they should look up Sarah Vaughan . I was/am a huge fan of hers. I met her in + - '72 in some one's apt and I played the piano and she sang. Pause.
She was a gas, and quite the comedian. Here are some blasts from the past of an exceptional Singer with a capital S.
I will break it in gently.......

makes an exceptional singer. And she learned by her own like Frank S how to breathe with bringing the mike in and out.
