Robin:Glad you're getting into it. Qawwali can be quite captivating. Nusrat emerged as the most famous and commercially prolific Qawal artist. The range of his offerings are a TRIP. He go from the most classical in form to collaborations with people like Eddie Vedder to disco-dance remix versions of traditional Qawwali that are hyped with electronic effects. No kidding! A real treat when you're in the mood. Din
omg...I almost bought this used at Double Deckers during our last trip down...but the copy had a lot of marks on it so I wasn't sure if it would play...guess I'll have to keep looking for a good copy...
Worth yer effort, Ms. Pumpkin.
Ok...so I have to admit first that I had to do some research on this topic before I even listened to the samples...I had no clue what the three of you where talking about. Interesting topic, read some about the history, then listened to the samples...I really like it. Now comes the hard part. My list of cds to buy is getting longer and longer...Can the three of you suggest which of the three albums mentioned would be the best one to start with? Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks, Mrs. Pumpkinman
Well I've only listened to these 2 albums myself and both are righteously good. I haven't sampled Swan Song (his last album, recorded Live) or any other album yet. Cheers,Robin
Thank you. I suppose I can start looking for one of the two you have heard...unless anyone else strongly suggests otherwise.
