Interesting idea, that.

There's this new very young and hip female singer from Austria by way of an ashram, sounds like to me, living in Brooklyn making some incredible sounds and her name is Maria Neckham.  Son of a bitch if her new album didn't get just reviewed in a late issue of TAS or Stereophile (sorry, can't find which just now).  She is as lyrically and compositionally hip as any young musician out there that I've heard in a long while.  Give her tunes time to evolve (she writes pretty long ones, especially THOSE) and blends instrumentally with her reed players in a way that just slays me.  Her players are Brooklyn based, I think, and they are fine as wine.  Mjosef probably rubs shoulders with these cats but he ain't sayin cause he's too square to have ventured here yet.  You can lead a horse to water but . . . You love jazz and are willing to experiment, dig her latest album.  Samples just ain't gonna get it.  What trip does in 30 seconds.  And it is a trip.

Ron Carter meets Bach

An...interesting...album. It is so mellow of style you would think ol' Ron is on drugs. He plays all instument tracks using bow as well as plucking. On key? Who needs to be on key? As someone said, it makes you check the disk for warping...

Man, I haven't turned on my system in the past week or so...way too hot,  my lone ac can only get my apt temp down to 85degrees. Besides with all the football and concerts happening right now...couple more nights of the Vision Festival to go....
As for maria neckam...I think I remember seeing/hearing her a couple years ago, either at the Stone or Bar55, she got something, but I think she has to experience some pain n' suffering before she can truly channel that feeling in her music.

One of my other jazz buds says the same thing.  She isn't about worldliness.  I told him play like she's singing in a strange language and you can't understand a word.  In a way I guess it could be said, she is.

Could be their best. The assistance by Larry Fast was a great move on their part.
