Richard Leo Johnson is a self-taught guitarist whose unorthodox acoustic style is reminiscent of the late Michael Hedges. While he is often placed in the new age camp, his sonic and rhythmic whirlwinds are often far more intense than that term implies. He claims Leo Kottke, John McLaughlin, and Pete Townshend as influences.

Quote
Kasa? Allstars is a collective revolving around 25 musicians from six bands, all from the Kasa? region, but originating from five different ethnic groups, each with their own culture, their own language and their own musical traditions, which were always thought to be incompatible until these musicians decided to pool their resources and form this "superband"...music is powerful and sophisticated, driving and raw. It blends acoustic instruments with electric guitars, distortion-laden thumb pianos (with DIY amplification) and soulful vocals...The songs on this album are directly drawn from festive and ritual music played in the bush before the arrival of the Europeans.

Damn, always reminds me of St. Louis.  I need to move my ass back there ASAP.  Luckily, I am still able to visit fairly often.

Mahler Symphony No. 5 (Royal Philharmonic Orchestra/Zander/Telarc SACD) in 2-channel stereo.

Before that it was Mahler 3 (same performers/label/format) in 2-channel stereo.

Correction: These Mahler Symphonies on Telarc SACD are, of course, by the Philharmonia Orchestra, not the Royal Philharmonic.  Silly me! :)
