Sin Fang Bous is the new alias of former Seabear frontman and Reykjavik-ian Sindri Mar Sigfusson. According to Sindri, the name is a string of nonsense words comprised of the first three letters of his name, a tribute to his fang-like teeth and ??Bous? respectively. It?s a deceptively bewildering pseudonym as what lies within the 12 twinkling sugar-frosted tracks of Clangour will seem reassuringly familiar to fans of Animal Collective, Panda Bear or Caribou.
Ben Gilmer grew up in the mountains of southwestern Virginia where he passed his time messing around the farm with his brother and cousins and playing music with family. With a long family history in the region, Ben started out learning traditional bluegrass music the traditional way...Ben\'s debut album, \"Juxtaposed,\" (2008) was recorded with the wonderful Mark Hodges at Mountain Fever Studios in Floyd County, Virginia. Juxtaposed is a collection of 12 original songs that truly capture the essence of Ben?s songwriting and diverse musical background. Juxtaposed firmly rests at the confluence of country, folk, rock, and roots music ? genuine, rootsy Americana music with the same grit and soul that can be found throughout the mountains of southern Appalachia.
"Eric Dolphy used to mow his lawn. So, we used to go down to Central Avenue; we weren't old enough to get into the clubs. But, at that time they weren't really that strict. We used to go down there and just kind of lurk in the background. When Dexter Gordon or some other heavyweight like Wardell Gray, Sonny Criss or Hampton Hawes came and if there weren't that many people or if it was late we would get a chance to sit in with those guys. After hearing these guys playing, maybe a couple of them would want to go out and get high and we'd go up and play. So, I got to play a lot over there."
How much is that doggie in the picture...the one with the bows in its ears....

Cocteau Twins And Harold Budd - The Moon And The MelodiesBrilliant music I just rediscovered. I've owned this for a number of years, but didn't give it too many listens until the recent Harold Budd posts on this thread. Now I can't stop playing the damn thing. It's like early Cocteau Twins meets the Blade Runner soundtrack (Vangelis). Good stuff.
