Live at Tonic ~ Christian McBride /2005

Christian McBride's basslines range from Jimmy Blanton's big-band boom shots to James Brown's funky grooves on his first live recording, a 3-CD set recorded at Manhattan's Tonic club in January 2005. Backed by his ace band featuring keyboardist Geoffrey Keezer and Saturday Night Live saxophonist/flutist Ron Blake, McBride effortlessly alternates between acoustic and electric bass and lays down some solid bottom on these Herbie Hancock/Miles Davis-influenced, post-fusion tracks.

           Red Heat......... Jimmy Haslip /2000

Bassist Jimmy Haslip has taken a side trip from his regular gig as a founding member of the Yellowjackets to put out this engaging and pleasurable solo release. The album features a strong Latin flavor, with a continuous presence of Latin percussion and rhythms, but also amply showcases Jimmy's skills on electric bass and as a song stylist.

The Next Level ~ Sekou Bunch /2008

Master Bassist and first call player to the stars, Sekou Bunch 'finally' emerges from the shadows and takes his rightful place in the spotlight with his auspicious Trippin 'N' Rhythm records debut.

Line by Line ~ John Patitucci /2006

John Patitucci has been argueably the best bassist in the world since the late 80's, when he was introduced in Chick Corea's Elektric and Akoustic Bands.

The Ozell Tapes: The Official Bootleg [LIVE] .... Marcus Miller /2002

2002 album from the big, big man of fusion jazz. Virtuosity is not an end in itself and Marcus Miller only uses it to produce nice and exciting music plus he's a great performer and leads a killer group.

Joan Jeanrenaud: Strange Toys (2008)

A very diverse album from this cellist who was a member of the Kronos Quartet, a worthwhile album worth sampling here.

Picked this up today for $10 at my local flea market. It's a 3-cd box set. Lovely, lovely stuff. Extraordinary recording -- even more impressive artist.

SACD hybrid...
Quote
The present recording proposes his Mass N°2 in E minor in its 1882 revised form, as well as the Motets. Marcus Creed, who has also recorded extraordinary versions of Brahms’ choral works, once again delights us. The perfect tonal balance the Vokalensemble of Stuttgart radiates is a marvel at every moment. Bruckner’s sacred music thereby seems eternal. Here is a Super Audio CD of rare musical pertinence: a summit.
