Any impressions of the Primare or the Cary? Looks like I need to up/downgrade.
Thanks.

Go for the Butler TDB5150. I had a Rotel and the Earthquake before and found the Butler a much better performer.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll search one out. Amazing if it's better than the Earthquake which despite my experience with it is a great sounding amp.

I'm going to indirectly recommend the Butler, too. I honestly had never even heard of the company until about a week ago. A friend of mine is a local high end dealer down here in Atlanta and he told me about the line. I've since read about as much as possible on them, and I'm really thinking they must be some great amps!

The Butlers are amazing amps, but have a tube sound (duh!) that may or may not have synergy with the rest oif the system.  Demo, demo, demo.(Butler has decent return policy).  It's personal taste, of course, but in my system I prefer a warmth in the pre and amps cuz my ribbon-based speakers don't take kindly to anything left of neutral.

Hey Buddy,
Make sure you check their warrantee policy in case you find one on the used market and decide to modify it.  Ask them if they will take it back if one of your mods or the one from the previous owner goes up in flames....or run the risk of having to deal with your belly-aching and dragging them through the mud on every website on the planet.  I'd be curious to see if any amp manufacturer agrees to your terms.

Good luck!

Ya know it's a damned shame you don't know the facts but I hope you're keeping yourself amused. I have trouble changing a lighbulb let alone modding a piece of gear and I would never BUY anything modded. I don't believe in it anymore than I believe in cables.

Actually...I only run a 5.1 system for movies. I run a 5.0 system for surround music.
