According to engadget, with a minute-by-minute recount of Jobs' 2-28-06 press conference:

10:38am PT - "I'm an audiophile, and I'm getting rid of my stereo."

Maybe he's getting rid of his second or third system?

Marketing hype - unless Apple stock has fallen and he needs the cash.

I think this is a good example of a marketing ploy.

Steve Jobs?  Marketing ploy?

Jobs has to be one of the top marketers in the history of business.  And with all that, I am still a big fan of Apple products... :thumb:

If I had an iPod, I'd consider getting one of those iPod HiFi units for use in my kitchen or something, no question....

Looks like a nice toy for the workout room, cottage, deck, or some other place where absolute fidelity does not matter, and where convenience for use with an existing Ipod would be beneficial.

As I own no Ipod, I am not in the market.

Sure, Apple does some fantastic marketing, but I doubt I will invest in a $300 Ipod, and another $350 for this thing... for an area where fidelity did not matter.

In fact, I have searched my home, and I cannot find a SINGLE place there where fidelity does not matter!

The iPod Hifi is too big for a kitchen at least mine.  It is a size of a boom box no more.

It can be used as a center channel when watching  iPod video :o

There are better products that are similar for $350 and below.

It would actually be quite good for stereo for an iPod video...you'd be watching it with your nose right up to the screen, so you'd get a nice near-field stereo experience... :D

Exactly what I did :o  It is really ackward.  The top can accomodate, Nano and iPod photo.  The iPod Hifi is Wide, Long and Tall in dimension.
