I'm sure many of you already know about this, but I'm posting for those that don't.  The Live Music Archive is a repository for free, mostly concert recordings.  Many are in flac format for your lossless enjoyment.

Download and stream through your computer - what could be easier?

And, check out the -almost- 3,000 Grateful Dead shows.

Happy Friday everyone!

Mike

Thanks for the tip, Mike!

(specifically, those Dead shows!  :bounce: )

I'm sure I'll find others I'll just *have* to have as well.

Guess it is time to score another hard drive!! :D

I have been using the LMA for years now. It was a bummer when The Dead made all the soundboards stream only. Luckily I had ~20gigs already. FYI I think they were planning on getting every dead show recored on there.

Deadfish: Did you pick up the ten disk 69' set? I can't stop listening to it.

Naw, I haven't heard that set of cds yet.  My
brief memory is that it was a limited edition set?
Actually, don't have any details on it but would love to.
(another search for later today!)
For me, the 60's and early 70's caught The Boys in their prime and stride...  80's and 90's were as bloated and staggering as Garcia in the end.. but still, like any great meal at the end, you are left stuffed at the table sampling this and that before it is all gone....

Yah, I captured a few shows in the past that I was looking for, primarilly trying to snag shows that I know that I was at, whether remembered or not.
Didn't get 'em all though before the embargo limited things to 'streaming'.
(steaming stink, my attitude, but I can understand the 'intellectual property' thing, even though I *do* remember when Jerry said once the band played the music it belonged to the people...)
Ah well.

Now if I just had the genious and energy of my youth to figure out how to capture 'streaming' digitally.....

heheheh

yeah the ten disks were limited to 10k copies which have been sold out for a while now. they are going for ~500 on ebay. There is also a three disk unlimited version.

here is the list of all the bands.

I highly recommend checking out the band moe. they rock real hard. Some of my other favorites are:

The Disco Biscuits(heading to Amsterdam to see them in March they are not for everyone)

The Benevento Russo Duo: These guys are absolutly jaw dropping!! Its a drum and organ jazzyish duo that knock your socks off.Joe Russo is an amazing drumer. Look for 12/31/04 with Mike Godon on bass. Mike has beening doing tours with them and it is a trio not to be missed.

Sound Tribe Sector Nine: Live Electronica great stuff.

I was mostly searching for stuff that has any listenable quality.

right I understand. If you want to check out moe. look for shows recored by John Merin. He does a very good job. These tapers are a whole other level of audio geek. Most of the newer shows of the bands with tons of shows will be ok. They are mostly auds though so you have to be a music fan first then an audiophile.

As a big time moe taper, I would have to say that audiophiles are much higher on the ladder of geekdom than tapers.  I wonder what it say's if you are close to being both?  Merin's tapes are vastly overrated 8)

As of so far the Little Feat ones I found are the best. They sound like a real CD. They have a little noise in them but nothing compared to original Vinyl. I really need to buy Waiting for Columbus....

I have a general question on the subject of dowloading music since there are people here with experience (I clearly don't):  A few years ago one of my friends made me a copy of a live David Byrne show.  Unfortunately I lost my copy and so did he, but I REALLY liked the show.  I thought it sounded damn good to go along with a good set.

Well....I've looked at the lists on some of the torrent sites and David Byrne is never listed so I presume he doesn't support downloads.  Does that mean this concert would no longer be on the net, or just not on a legit (legal) site, i.e. you'd have to find someone to trade with behind the scenes, which I could probably forget about since I don't know where to look and don't really have anything to trade.

I did Chicago, and will of course be at summercamp.  Last year I did 15 or so shows, moe down (18 hour drive, flying luggae of the roof of my suv, ugh), summercamp, and anything within 6 hours or so of a drive from Iowa City.  I can hook you up with some shows that I would call refrence auds if you will.  I mainly stick to MOE these days, as the weekday bar show is not happening.  Coming to work with a hangover is not an optio any longer unfortunately. :nono:

Thanks for the tip, STS9fan.
I didn't get the big set, but the 3 disk set I already scored.
My understanding is that my altime favorite 'Live Dead' was carved out of that series.
Damned good stuff.

carusoracer, left you a pm.  I might be able to help a little with one date.
Wish I had 'em all!
