Any KR Audio tube user here?

Hi all,

Just wonder if there anyone here using KR Audio tube?

I have been using my amps Welborne Lab Apollo with KR Audio 842HVD tubes for 5 years now. So, maybe it is time for a new set?

Well, let's see.... if I run my amps 3 hours a day, 5 days a week, 4 weeks a month, 12 months a year for 5 years.... that = 3600hrs. Hmmm... that is not really accurate but I think they must have around 4000-4500hrs by now.

These are wonderful tube.... very dynamic, higher power in newer design amp (Art Audio come to mind) definately ain't your old SET tube. And they are beautiful and handmand. Expensive tubes but according to the company they do last very long.

So, I would like some feedback from other KR tube user about what amps you use, how long you run them before changing them and where do you buy a new pair. I know that there is a KR Audio dealer in Canada http://kraudioproducts.com Had anyone buy KR tube from this dealer?  Any authorized dealer in the US? I think Art Audio might carry them also.

Take care all,
Buddy :thumb:

I am not familiar with the 842, how much power, dissapation can it handle?

Emission Labs is the natural competitor to KR Audio.  When I was doing research for my long dated Karna project, I read up a lot of opinions on the matter and it seems that EL is maybe a more reliable source than KR currently.  You might check to see if EL has a decent tube replacement for the 842.

P.S. do you know anything about the topology of the Apollo amp?

JoshK,

Hmm... I don't know much about Emission Labs. I think I will have to do some research on that. But... yes so far from what I've heard EL does make tube that could be a direct replacement for amps with KR tube with same spec.

But so far I think KR Audio are doing fine. They still around and coming out with new amps and tubes. Got some good reviews from places like enjoythemusic.com and 6moons.com I think I will stay with KR Audio for now.

As for the Apollo amp.... I built them from kit. So, yes I know the topology  Also, you could find some more info in the Audio Asylum Sponsor section....  the Welbore Lab section is closed but you could still do a search there.

Oh! here is a link to KR tubes info http://www.kraudioproducts.com/Kr/ProductMain.aspx?CatID=13 and http://www.kraudio.cz/ I think spec on the first link is not right... in 300B Balloon filament amp is 1.9A and KR site is 1.2A

Hey! Josh... why don't you stop by my place sometime? So, you could check out my amps with Single Driver speaker. :D Maybe I could do another mini-rave again soon with you and 2 more ravers.  Oh! Josh if you are going to come over don't forget to bring some music of a girl with a guitar...

Take care,
