VHP-1 - possible dumb question
« on: 12 Feb 2006, 04:49 pm »
I am thinking of building a headphone only system in my basement/mancave and I was wondering if it is feasible to hook up 3 sources to the VHP-1 if two use a Y adapter ie. CDP/tuner and the other input would have a TT/VPP-1.

VHP-1 has only one input so you need something to switch the inputs. A "Y" adapter is a bad idea because the source will be feeding the VHP-1, and also the output of the other device connected to the adapter.

He needs to be able to switch between three sources...looks like the Niles only has two inputs.

You could try this:

Yep, that should work.

Here's another option that gives you three inputs and two selectable outputs (so you could use the sources with another system as well).  I haven't used one, but they have been recommended a few times on a couple of different forums:

According to the "Order" link on that site, he is no longer taking orders. Does anyone know differently?

The DECWARE switch looks promising. Now to decide if I do a mancave system or get a new radio control model sailplane

Thanks for the info

CI VPC-2
As a newbie, I realize the immediate need in this thread was for three inputs, but would the CI VPC-2 controller also be an excellent switch candidate for two inputs, to connect a headphone amp to a source or preamp? One preamp I'm considering does not have a tape in/out --just two pre outs. Would it be a good idea to use the VPC-2 after one of the pre outs to switch between the CI VPH-1 head amp and ,say, a sub? Or would it be better to place the controller/ switch after the source (SB2, SACD player) and before the preamp? I worry that any attenuation and/or connection in the chain is bound to detract form the sound somewhat. And this assumes an SB2 (Bolder full mod) could drive the VPH head amp directly.

Thanks.

Rob

You can use the VPC-2 as a 2 input switch. You would use the 2nd pair of outputs set to "fixed" output (bypassing the volume control).
