I've used lots of room treatments. At one time I had eight Argent Room Lenses, two Roomtunes, two Bassbusters, four corner tunes, four echotunes and several other diffusers. These made a notable improvement, but not even close to being in the same league as the Tact 2.2 ...

I think this is my thoughts exactly.  Not that the treatment does not work, but guess a lot of analysis must be done in exactly where to put them, and there is the WAF too.  :(     At the back of my mind, I am thinking perhaps a computer may do a job more effectively for layman like me.

You must have room treatment. That is your first priority.  You could get room treatment and a Behringer DEQ 2496 which may be an excellent idea.  This is what I'm using but if I had to take one it's the room treatment. The Behringer though has helped quite significantly.

So far the reviews/comments on the new unit haven't been glowing.

What are the issues that have been uncovered?  I ask because I just bought a 2.2x and TacT is offering to upgrade it for only the price-difference.  I do plan to call upon Anthony in the future, but this is a limited time-window for me.  If the new unit isn't better, I'll skip it for now until they get it "right".

Richard,

As a professional audio engineer I know what DSP can and cannot do. Likewise, as an acoustic treatment vendor I know what acoustic treatment can do and where it falls short. If you were a professional chef and someone showed you a clipping from a popular ladies magazine showing cool things to do with leftover hot dogs, I suspect you'd know it's not fine cuisine without having to try each recipe.

Not to be combative or elitist, but none of the products you mentioned are what I would consider high performance. Especially at low frequencies.

I don't have the TACT so can't comment on performance.  However, every DRC (digital room correction) system has detriments and benefits, and the TACT has its share.  For instance, TACT can't improve modal ringing, though perhaps lessening a peak would lessen the extent of the ringing -- the ringing itself would still be there, though.  The TACT cannot fix speakers, so you're going to have to start with a good speaker (ie, Bose is Bose no matter what you throw at it).  TACT, by its very nature, cannot fix nonlinearities (i.e., the fact that it assumes the frequency domain response is equivalent to the time domain response entails linearity).  This doesn't mean that the TACT isn't beneficial, just that it has its limitations, too.

I have used Ethan's products and noted immediate improvement in many areas.  If I can ever get my ETF program working correctly (and the time), I'll post the results of using his products in my room.

Personally, I'm going with room treatments first and DRC second.  You may choose a different path.

I think I read somewhere (perhaps in the Tact User group) that someone was saying for those who have not bought an RCS, it's better to get a TDA2200 because it includes everything the RCS has plus it is a DAC/preamp/amp all in one box! Of course this drew some debate from other members, I think Anthony (Aberdeeen component) believe that TDA2200 is worst than M2150X. And if that's the case, getting an M2150X and get it modified by Anthony could be the way to go...

But of course, both these units cannot output big power.. I think they're 2x150W into 8 Ohm only.

Do we as the member of this forum have any consensus on this?
